At Metalizing Specialists, LLC, we do a substantial amount of work on heavy duty pump components for the petro/chemical industry. Our thermal spray coatings are a remarkably effective means for extending the service life and improving the performance of valuable rotating equipment. In addition to improving the long term corrosion, wear, and abrasion resistance on newly manufactured equipment, we often undertake thermal spray coating projects for the repair and dimensional restoration of worn parts.
This particular project involved four HVOF coating spray applications on the components highlighted here, which featured overall length of 20′ and diameters measuring up to 60″. After examining the customer specification and assessing the parts, we developed a treatment plan, the first step being proper preparation of the substrate to ensure optimal coating adherence to the base material. We then selected coating materials and process parameters to yield the desired results.
For some of the parts we applied a 0.010″ – 0.020″ thick coating of carbide, which provided resistance to oxidation and corrosion in an oil field environment where the pump would be exposed to extreme pressure and heat. We also used a .012 – .014 thick carbide coating. Our advanced technology equipment combined with years of metallurgical expertise allowed us to create surface finishes in the 2 RA to 32 RA range. Various quality control instruments allowed us to measure the surface topography and make an accurate assessment of critical surface profiles.
Effective project management and ample production resources allowed us to deliver the finished parts to the customer within one week. If you are interested in learning more about this project or our metallizing capabilities, contact us today.
